From the collection of the Parisian art dealer and collector Michel de Bry, who together with the legendary jazz impresario Hugues Panassié organized the 1948 Festival International du Jazz in Nice.
Armstrong was greatly interested in health and bodily functions, advocating the use of laxatives to control weight. He would publish his ideas in a book called Lose Weight the Satchmo Way, and also appeared in advertisements for his favorite herbal laxative, Swiss Kriss. In this manuscript, he describes a regimen of regular meals and recommends: "A laxative at least once a week, is very nice." A very unusual item the great jazz artist, who once wrote "Satchmo Slogan / the more you shit / the thinner you'll git / no shit."
