Hardcover first edition. 8vo.  pink cloth with red spine, in bright red dust jacket. 194 pp with index. Inscribed in black ink on the full page photograph portrait opposite the beginning of her Foreward to the book: "To Paul / Happy New Year / Billie Burke / 1956." Thin strip of black tape staining to lower edge of the cloth, block of toning to the inside cover and ffe, dj with small tears along the upper spine and flaps, overall a near fine copy in a near fine jacket. 

The American actress who was famous on Broadway and radio, and in silent and sound films is best known to modern audiences as Glinda the Good Witch of the North in the MGM film musical The Wizard of Oz (1939).  Burke was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Emily Kilbourne in Merrily We Live (1938) and was married to Broadway producer and impresario Florenz Ziegfeld Jr. from 1914 until his death in 1932.

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
