Autograph note from the Soviet composer and noted figure of twentieth-century music, sending 1966 New Year's wishes to the widow and daughter of violinist Vasily Petrovich Shirinsky, a founding member of the Beethoven Quartet, to whose memory Shostakovich's Eleventh Quartet is dedicated. Shostakovich writes (translated from the Russian): "Dear Nina Borisovna and Nina Vasilievna, We are sending you our warmest greetings for the New Year. Wishing you all the best. Yours, N. and D. Shostakovich." On letterhead with the image of a ship, folded to 14.8 x 17.3 cm.  With the original envelope addressed in the composer's hand, signed additionally. 15.6 x 9.7 cm.  In very fine condition.
