Benchley, Peter. (1924–1994). "Jaws" . Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company . 1974. First Edition, Later Printing.
Hardcover. 8vo. 311 ppA later printing of the first edition, with stated 1974 copyright, no codes printed on page 311, dark blue endpapers. Full black cloth boards, light shelf wear and slightly cocked, silver spine titles feature shark vignette as would appear through a hull's porthole window. Dustjacket without printed price, a little rubbed, but an attractive example of the classic cover art by Paul Bacon of swimmer in bikini above phallic great white image appearing enormously from bottom of image; bold cover and spine titles in red and white over black background and back panel featuring portrait by Alex Gotfryd of Benchley in turtle neck and sport coat. Ownership signatures to the front and rear of front endpage and with a spurious signature "Peter Benchley" in blue ink with a shark cartoon to the title [in our opinion, this is not an authentic autograph, with strong dissimilarities in spacing and et, B, y letter formations].

It was just another day in a small Atlantic resort until the terror from the deep came to prey on unwary holiday makers. The first sign of trouble - a warning of what was to come - took the form of a young woman's body, or what was left of it, washed up on the long, white stretch of beach. A summer of terror began!
