Avedon, Richard. (1923–2004) [Dietrich, Marlene (1901-1992)]. Marlene Dietrich in Bedroom, 1948 - SIGNED BY DIETRICH.
Original silver gelatin photograph of the iconic singer and actress, as captured by the 25-year-old Richard Avedon for Harper's Bazaar, 1948 around the time of the filming of The Foreign Affair, and depicting the actress in a sultry pose on the bed, suggestively touching a finger to her lips.  Dietrich herself has signed the image, but the photograph is unsigned by photographer himself. However, this photograph was given directly by Avedon to Dietrich. Light fading, some spots of staining, laid down to rigid backing probably by the photographer, otherwise in fine condition. Print measures 9.75 x 10.5 inches matted to 16 x 20 inches.

An extraordinary original early Avedon photograph with special provenance from the subject herself, from the personal collection of Marlene Dietrich, thence to the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort.
