[Sondheim, Stephen. (1930–2021)]. "Follies" - Original Advertisement from Boston Tryout.
Rare single-sheet advertisement for the pre-Broadway tryout of Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman's 1971 musical Follies, which ran at the Colonial Theatre in Boston from February 24 to March 20 of that year before transferring to the Winter Garden where it would run for over 500 performances. In fine condition. 6 x 9 inches (15.2 x 22.9 cm.).

Follies was one of the most expensive Broadway productions of its era. The cost was such that, despite a 500-plus performance run and seven Tony Awards, the show ultimately lost its entire initial investment.

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
