Vintage bromoil silver gelatin photograph of the great composer, shown in a profile portrait from the collar up. Stamped pencil by the photographer, Trude Fleischmann of Vienna, lower left. Scattered small stains and abrasions, two small pinholes to upper corners, notation in pencil on the verso, else fine. 3.6 x 4.5 inches (8.4 x 11.4 cm).

During the 1920s Trude Fleischmann was one of the most popular portrait photographers in Vienna. In 1920 she opened here her photo studio, and portrayed prestigious figures from society, art and culture, such as the architect Adolf Loos and writer Stefan Zweig. She was a friend of Berg's and was called upon by the family to photograph him again a few years later, on his deathbed.
