Signed photograph of the American actress, dancer, and singer, who is shown mid-jump in the 1964 show “Bajour.” She has signed and inscribed over her bare leg: "To Paul / All thanks / Chita Rivera / 1967." Very fine. 8 x 10 inches (20.7 x 25.4 cm).
Bajour (music and lyrics by Walter Marks, book by Ernest Kinoy) opened at the Shubert Theatre on Monday, November 23, 1964. It moved to the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on May 10, 1965. The show, a gypsy musical with a twist, was set in present day New York. Chita played Anyanka, daughter of Newark's gypsy king.
From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
