Includes frontis portrait of the poet by Augustus John opposite p. ix.  Likely second issue with publisher's address of "333 Sixth Avenue" on copyright page instead of "500 Fifth Avenue," as New Directions moved to 333 Sixth Avenue after 1946 and by 1953. Dust jacket with "333 Sixth Avenue" on bottom of rear panel and no "Lowry" on lower right front panel. Bound in publisher's rose cloth with gilt spine letters blocked in black, in a very good dust jacket with light edge wear and small tear to upper spine flap fold. Rolph B11. Maud, 12. 

Among the poems included in Selected Writings are "I see the boys of summer in their ruin," "Fern Hill," "A Refusal to Mourn the Death, by Fire, of a Child in London," and "In My Craft or Sullen Art."
