Reagan, Ronald. (1911–2004). "Where's the Rest of Me? The Ronald Reagan Story" - SIGNED. New York: Duell, Sloan and Pearce. 1965. First Edition, Third Printing.
Hardcover. 8vo. 316 pp. Signed to the front free endpage of the early autobiography of the former president, "Best Wishes / Ronald Regan / 7/27/65." Near fine with a strip of toning to the signed ffe, in a near fine dust jacket. An especially desirable signed but not personally inscribed copy.
Reagan released his autobiography in 1965 as he ramped up his campaigning for an as-yet officially unannounced candidacy for the California governorship Republican primary. At the time of the present signing, he was surging in the polls, though it was still over a year until the election. We are aware of at least 4 other copies of this volume signed on the same date, which must have been a campaign event.
The 1966 California gubernatorial election was held on November 8, 1966. Incumbent Democratic Governor Pat Brown was defeated in his bid for re-election by Republican nominee and future President Ronald Reagan. This remains the last time an incumbent governor of California lost re-election, though one subsequent governor was recalled from office in 2003.
