Title translates as "Almanac of the Prisons, or Anecdotes on the internal management of the Conciergerie, Luxembourg, etc. [prisons] and on various prisoners who were inmates of these houses under the tyranny of Robespierre, with songs, letters and couplets created by them."  32mo.  178 pp., with engraved frontispiece.  Quarter calf with raised bands and lettering in gilt to red Morocco label.  5.5 x 3.25 inches (14 x 8 cm).  Some foxing; numerous paper imperfections; right upper corner of pp. 53–54 torn off; else in very good condition.

Together with two sequels, both in the same format and each bound separately in the manner of the above:

Tableau des Prisons de Paris sous le règne de Robespierre / Pour faire suite à l Almanach des Prisons, contenant différentes anecdotes sur plusieurs prisonniers, avec les couplets, pièces de vers, lettres et testaments qu'ils ont faits.  Paris: Michel, n.d. [1793?]  Title translates as "A portrait of the Paris prisons under the reign of Robespierre / As a sequel to the Almanac of the Prisons, containing various anecdotes on various prisoners, with couplets, poems, letters and wills they created."  198 pp., with engraved frontispiece.  Some foxing and damp staining; numerous paper imperfections; else in good condition.

Second Tableau des Prisons de Paris sous le règne de Robespierre / Pour servir de suite à l Almanach des Prisons, contenant différentes anecdotes sur plusieurs prisonniers, avec les couplets, pièces de vers, lettres et testaments qu'ils ont faits.  Paris: Michel, n.d. [1795?]  Title translates as "Second portrait of the Paris prisons under the reign of Robespierre / Serving as a sequel to the Almanac of the Prisons, containing various anecdotes on various prisoners, with couplets, poems, letters and wills they created."  179 pp., with engraved frontispiece.  Some foxing; numerous paper imperfections; else in good condition.

An attractive set of three contemporary volumes of highly interesting first-hand accounts from victims of the Reign of Terror, edited by Philippe-Edme Coittant.  The first volume also contains a conversion table for the French revolutionary calendar. Various bibliographers (including Barbier IV, 641) attributes the work not to Coittant, but to Michel Cossin, though Philippe-Edme Coittant (born 1748) was himself imprisoned in 1793.
