Attractive early signed Gale Inc. publicity portrait of the jazz icon, ca. 1945, signed and inscribed somewhat cryptically in black ink: "What happened to the magazine? It was a killer No Foolin. Best to you always 'Mattie' Sincerely a pal / Ella Fitzgerald.” Slightly trimmed, some soiling and smudging, mounted to paper backing, else fine. 8 x 9.5 inches (20 x 25.4 cm.).
Ella Fitzgerald's career was managed by Moe Gale, co-founder of the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, from the beginning of her career until she transitioned to Norman Granz in the mid-1950s.
