Coltrane, John. (1926–1967). "Giant Steps" - Signed LP, inscribed GOD IS LOVE.

Sought-after Giant Steps album signed on the back cover in black ballpoint by the legendary saxophonist, band leader, and composer whose brilliant improvisatory skills and experimental spirit made him one of the most influential and highly regarded musicians in the history of jazz. After playing tenor and soprano sax with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk, he led his own groups and made such classic recordings as 'Giant Steps,' 'My Favorite Things,' and 'A Love Supreme.' He died of liver cancer at the age of 41.

Extremely rare in any autograph material, we are aware of only one other signed example of this influential album ever having been on the market. In fine condition, inscribed to "GEN" on the cover verso, "God Is Love / Thank You / John Coltrane ." The record is included. Album with light signs of age and handling, LP very good. Together with a Roger Epperson (REAL) Letter of Authenticity in addition to our standard unlimited Guarantee.

The inscription is significant. John Coltrane was a deeply spiritual artist who merged his Christian upbringing with Eastern philosophy and universalist views, viewing music as a divine, meditative, and healing force. Following a 1957 spiritual awakening, he abandoned addiction to pursue religious truth and his masterpiece, A Love Supreme, reflects this devotion. He is revered as "Saint John Coltrane" in the African Orthodox Church in San Francisco, whose mission “is to paint the globe with the message of A Love Supreme, and in doing so promote global unity, peace on earth and knowledge of the one true living God.”

Giant Steps, Coltrane's first album with Atlantic Records, was released in 1960, and is a landmark album in jazz history, showcasing Coltrane's innovative chord progressions and complex harmonic structures. The album includes compositions like "Naima" and the title track "Giant Steps," which have become staples in jazz repertoire and demonstrate Coltrane's influence on subsequent generations of musicians.
