"Turbae" ad Passionem Gregorianam op. 43 for two Gregorian singers, boys' choir, mixed chorus, and orchestra. Upright folio. Fascimile copyist MS. 112 pp. Signed in blue ink to the front cover title page by the important Argentine composer "Alberto Ginastera" and by Robert Page (1927 - 2024), esteemed American conductor and pedagogue, then music director of the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia (1964 - 1976) and director of choruses for the Cleveland Orch. from 1971 to 1989. This copy also signed by and marked throughout in pencil by William Marsh who used the score in preparation for the performances conducted by Page with the Cleveland Orchestra in 1975. Also together with several copies each of lengthy, detailed and quite moving communications from Page to the chorus during and after rehearsals and performances, as well as a xerox copy of the full concert program. Stamp of the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia lower right, modest tearing around the staples binding and evidence of concert use, overall a fine copy.
Stuart Pope, editor of the noted Argentine composer's works, has written in the preface of his catalogue: "As with his contemporary Benjamin Britten, the human voice is perhaps Alberto Ginastera's greatest influence: the operas, the cantatas, the chamber music with voice and not least the choral writing." His monumental modern-day Passion oratorio setting Turbae ad Passionem Gregroianam, is widely regarded as one of the composer's most important works.
