A remarkable original drawing and autograph letter from the legendary British actress to American jazz and popular music singer Tony Bennett. Hand drawn image by Mirren of an open mouth singing musical notes, on the front of a warm, handwritten thank you card. In full, "Dear Tony, Mr. Bennett / What an enormous kindness to send me the vocal exercises. You are the wonderful, lovely man I have always thought you to be. I shall treasure it and put it to good use. However I pity my neighbors as singing in time is something I find almost impossible! Maybe with your and Carlo Menotti's help I will improve - Thank you so very much - Love, Helen Mirren. Accompanied by an envelope addressed to Bennett postmarked April 13, 2015 from the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, NY. 4 x 5.5 inches. In very fine condition.
It is presumed that it was Carlo Menotti's "The Art of Modern Singing" (originally published 1968) which Bennett had sent to Mirren while in New York. At the time, she was portraying Queen Elizabeth II in Peter Morgan's The Audience, a role she performed both on Broadway and on the West End, and which earned her the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress.
