Burton, Richard. (1925–1984). Signed Photograph.

Signed photograph of the Welsh actor widely regarded as one of the greatest of his generation, who has inscribed "To Paul / Richard Burton."  10 x 8 inches (25.5 x 20.6 cm).  Upper corners a little creased; else in fine condition.

Burton established himself as a formidable Shakespearean actor in the 1950s and gave a memorable performance as Hamlet in 1964.  He was nominated for an Academy Award seven times, but never won.  By the late 1960s, he was one of the highest-paid actors in the world.  He remained closely associated in the public mind with his second wife, Elizabeth Taylor.  The couple's turbulent relationship, married twice and divorced twice, was rarely out of the news.

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
