Moffo, Anna. (1932–2006). "Manon"—Signed Photograph.

Signed three-quarter-length portrait of the American singer (coloratura soprano) and actress in costume as Manon in Massenet's opera of the same name.  By Louis Mélançon, New York, for the Metropolitan Opera, New York.  Inscribed to Paul McMahon.  Caption noted in pencil to verso; copyright notice hand stamped to verso; label with blurb for upcoming Met guest performance in Boston on "Friday, April 17" to verso.  10 x 8 inches (25.4 x 20.4 cm).  Remnants of earlier mounting to verso; else in fine condition.

The Met's production of Manon with Moffo dates from 1963; April 17 was a Friday not in 1963 but in 1964.  We can safely assume that this photo is from March or April of that year.

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
