1974 saw Liza Minnelli and Fred Astaire appearing together with Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, Bing Crosby and other greats in the documentary film That's Entertainment! Compiled by its writer-producer-director, Jack Haley Jr., under the supervision of executive producer Daniel Melnick, the documentary turned the spotlight on MGM's legacy of musical films from the 1920s through the 1950s, culling dozens of performances from the studio's movies. Minnelli, much younger than the other stars, represented her mother, Judy Garland.
