Undoubtedly the most famous of all lifetime portraits of the great violinist, who is shown here seated in the context of the Joachim Quartet. Executed by the Austrian artist c. 1904, signed "F. Schmutzer" in pencil at the lower right. Etching on paper, plate size 8.5 x 8.9 inches. Wide margins, over 1.5 inches, framed to 12.5 x 15.25 inches overall. A richly ink impression of this scarce print, which was reproduced in the New York Times in their 2007 story commemorating the 100-year anniversary of Joachim's death.
