An important original portrait of the composer by his student Benedikt Dolbin who went on to be one of the most celebrated Austrian caricaturists. Original lithograph on paper, ca. 1924. This portrait of the Austrian composer and conductor shows him eight years before his emigration to the USA. Signed and dated in the stone, and signed in pencil lower left.  Light crease, slightly rubbed, otherwise in fine condition.  18.75 x 13.5 inches (48 x 34.5 cm). 

Renowned Graphic artist Benedikt Fred Dolbin was born as Fred Pollak in Vienna, Austria, changing his name to Dolbin in 1912. After studying at the Technical University of Vienna and studying music with Arnold Schoenberg and others, he worked in Berlin as a newspaper cartoonist, art critic, and book illustrator for various newspapers. He immigrated to New York in 1935, where he worked as an illustrator until his death on March 31, 1971.
