Oil on canvas, a sort of artist's self portrait, depicting the tools of the costume designer's trade, arrayed beside a depiction of a partially completed typical Plunkett costume design, signed "Plunkett 1947" (lower right) and inscribed "This is Lee Louis'[?] property - Walter Plunkett" (verso). 24 x 20in (61 x 50.8cm); framed 30 1/2 x 25 1/2in (77.5 x 64.8cm).

A moving original painting by the prolific costume designer who worked on more than 150 projects throughout his career in the Hollywood film industry, and is best-known for his designs for Gone with the Wind (1939), Singin' in the Rain (1952), and An American in Paris, for which he shared an Academy Award for Best Costume Design with Orry-Kelly and Irene Sharaff.
