Dine, Jim. (b. 1935) [Apollinaire, Guillaume. (1880-1918)]. 4 Original Drawings and 3 Books .

A collection of three books and catalogs including artwork by Jim Dine, together with a group of sketches presumed to be by Dine, from the Estate of Phyllis Newman and Adolph Green, the playwright, performer and lyricist who in a six-decade collaboration with Betty Comden, was co-author of such hit Broadway musicals as "On the Town" and "Bells Are Ringing," and the screenplays for "Singin' in the Rain" and "The Band Wagon."  Two years following their marriage, in 1962, actress and singer Phyllis Newman won her first Tony Award as best featured actress in a musical for "Subways Are for Sleeping," whose book and lyrics were written by Green and Comden. The couple were collectors and friends of the artist.

Published 1968, first edition by Holt, Rinehart and Winston. 4to.  128 pp.  Hard cover with dust jacket. TOGETHER WITH FIVE INSERTED PAGES WITH PENCIL DRAWINGS. Some toning to the book, overall good condition. The dust jacket reads "By a fresh device of using illustrations to parallel and comment upon Apolinaire's plot in modern terms, Jim Dine sets off the work's vitality and happy sense of fun."

"Jim Dine" Waddington Galleries catalog. Postcard/advertisement from London gallery exhibit of recent prints and monotypes by Dine included between paste down end paper and free end paper. Dated 1984. 4to.  27 pp. Green paperback with slight sun fading around spine and extremities.
