[Warhol, Andy. (1928–1987)] Morphet, Richard. . "Warhol: The Tate Gallery" . London: Tate Gallery. 1971. First Edition, First Printing.

Hardcover exhibition book. 8vo.  108 pp, 8.5" X 8.5". Internally very fine throughout, with very light rubbing to the jacket with a minute tear to the upper rear edge, about fine.

Originally selected and curated by John Coplans for the Pasadena Art Museum, this key exhibition made appearances in Chicago, the Netherlands, and Paris before finally arriving at the Tate in London and finishing up at The Whitney in New York City shortly thereafter. This is a much-collected catalogue published on the occasion of the exhibition at The Tate Gallery, London, February 17 - March 28, 1971, and is surprisingly difficult to find in hardcover. A beautifully produced book, from the stunning opening pink pages, it provides great insight into the artist and his work, with bright reproductions and commentary by art historian, Richard Morphet, throughout. The cover is graced by Warhol's 1962 portrait of Marilyn Monroe (rear, Elizabeth Taylor) and the pages inside include artworks of his such as several different Campbell's Soup Can and Coca-Cola Bottle interpretations as well as portraits of popular culture icons and stills from his boundary-pushing films.  At the end of this volume is a Checklist of the 123 Works in the exhibition, along with the 59 works reproduced, but not in the exhibition, as well as a list of lenders, people like Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lichtenstein, the Sidney Janis Gallery, Ileanna Sonnabend, Robert Rauschenberg, Mr. and Mrs. Burton Tremaine, etc...
