Illustrated 4to, 208 pp. original cloth hardcovers in jacket. ASSOCIATION COPY, INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY WYETH TO LINCOLN KIRSTEIN, "For Lincoln with love / Andy & Betsy." An excellent copy, boards very slightly bowed but essentially near fine in fine jacket.
An interesting association with the American writer, impresario, art connoisseur, and cultural figure in New York City who, with George Balanchine, founded the New York City Ballet (first known as the "Ballet Society") in 1948. Kirstein was on the board of the MoMA and met Andrew Wyeth after the museum acquired "Christina's World" in 1948. "Kirstein appointed himself Wyeth's friend, admirer, mentor, and stern critic – in essence a supersuccessor to NC" – (Meryman, Andrew Wyeth: A Secret Life, 1998.)
