[Dietrich, Marlene (1901-1992)]. S.T. Dupont Gold Plated Ligne 2 Lighter - EX-MARLENE DIETRICH.
S.T. Dupont Gold Plated Ligne 2 Lighter from the collection of Marlene Dietrich, then to Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with her as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort. Sold together with a letter of provenance from the husband of Paul McMahon, Ralph Hodgdon. In fine condition. 1.8 x 1.3 inches.; 3 x 4.6 cm.

An extraordinary bit of association ephemera, from the collection of a true smoking icon, and certainly one of the most desirable examples of this beautiful lighter with the signature diamond pattern of S.T. Dupont, France's finest maker of luxury lighters.

The story of S.T. Dupont began in 1872 when Simon Tissot-Dupont, a visionary entrepreneur, founded a company dedicated to creating luxury luggage for the Parisian elite. The brand quickly gained a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, attracting notable figures and even royalty.  In the mid-20th century, the brand made a significant shift into the production of lighters, marking a major turning point in its history. This transformation was highlighted by the creation of the iconic S.T. Dupont Ligne 2 lighter in the 1970s. Known for its distinctive “cling” sound when opened, the Ligne 2 lighter became a symbol of luxury and sophistication. Made from precious metals and often adorned with intricate designs, these lighters are far more than simple fire starters. They represent a nod to the elegance of a bygone era and a testament to Dupont’s craftsmanship.
