A remarkable and striking sculpture bust of Paganini, commissioned by the American String Teachers Association. Apoxy on resin and fiberglass by artist Frank Gallo, signed "Gallo 66" to the lower outside right base and inscribed "Paganini" to the front. The bust was designed to screw into a wooden stand but this example includes only the screw attachment at the base. Approximately 12 inches tall and in very fine condition.
One of an apparently very limited number of these cast by artist, this was a commissioned work and we know of only 3 other examples, including those given by ASTA to violin pedagogues Joseph Gingold and Ivan Galamian (as the "Outstanding Master Teacher Award" in 1966, previously sold by Schubertiade). For reference purposes only, please see the displayed images of the American String Teacher magazine, Volume 46 Number 2 (Spring 1996), featuring an image of the bust on the cover and providing further history of the work.
Works by the popular artist, Gallo, are in the permanent collections of the The Whitney Museum of American Art, National Portrait Gallery, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, among others.
