[Cello] [Music Iconography] Thomas Orde, Lord Bolton (British, 1740-1807) . Mr Sharp playing the Cello at Cambridge, 1775 - EX-CHRISTOPHER HOGWOOD.

Pen and ink drawing, inscribed with title along the lower edge. 18 x 20.5 cm.  The paper has three vertical folds - one small tear at the bottom under his leg, some discoloration and browning, grey pencil marks along the bottom edge. Framed to 13.75 x 15.25 inches (35 x 39 cm). From the collection of noted English conductor, harpsichordist and musicologist, Christopher Hogwood (1941-2014). Exhibited: The Covent Garden Gallery, Russell Street, London.

Educated at Eton and at King's College, Cambridge, Thomas Orde-Powlett, 1st Baron Bolton graduated with a Master of Arts in 1773. Though he soon entered politics, he was evidently an accomplished amateur draftsman.
