Spine and page edges reinforced, uniformly toned, closely trimmed at margins, and with fingerings in black and red pencil throughout. A very rare signed publication from two years after the combat death of the influential French organist and composer.

Rare sheet music, with front cover lithograph printed in five colors, on wove paper. 34.4 x 23.4 cm (image). 5 pp. A patriotic, Unionist sheet music illustration, showing Liberty standing on a pedestal, wearing a Phrygian cap, a white tunic over a long gown emblazoned with stars, and a red sash. She holds a sword in her right hand and a staff with American flag in her left. Lower edge trimmed just below the author's name and the blank price line, upper and right edges chipped, otherwise fine, the colors remarkably bright and well preserved. Read More...

Autograph Musical Quotation

AMQS from the Spanish violinist, composer and conductor, a virtuoso violinist who studied with Monasterio, Vieuxtemps and Joachim, taught at the Madrid Conservatory and the Royal College of Music in London, and who was later one of Spain’s greatest conductors. Three detailed measures from the "Bolero" of his Op. 1 Piano Trio, signed and inscribed and dated London, 5 April, [18]95. On a page measuring 11 x 6 cm, with the signature of English physicist William Edward Ayrton on the verso. In fine condition and quite scarce.

Lengthy inscription and bold signature from the elegant Viennese pianist on the verso of the LP cover to his 1960 Schubert Impromtus recording. Dated May, 1964, he inscribes "To George --, one of the rare 'Schubert birds, in common admiration for this genius. Paul Badura Skoda." Fine.

A striking 11 x 11 inch doubleweight 1945 photograph of American troops enjoying a baseball came "in the shell-scarred Rizal Stadium, Manila." The image, by Sgt. Dick Hanley, was reproduced on the cover of "Yank," the Army's weekly magazine published by the United States military during World War II.

A remarkable association item from the legendary American baseball star and Hall of Famer who hit 60 homer runs in 1927 and had a career total of 714. His pencil signature on a 4" x 2" slip of paper together with the pencil signature of President Hoover. Two pin holes at bottom do not affect signatures, light creases, else very good condition. Sold together with a vintage clipped halftone image of Ruth and Hoover together on the day these signatures were obtained and a later reprint photograph of Ruth, captioned with his famous quotation about his salary. From the most famous actress of the 19th century, known as “The Divine Sarah.” Vintage Reutlinger postcard photograph, boldly signed in fountain pen and inscribed "Que la vie vous soit -- charme." 9 x 14 cm and in very fine condition.

The image is of Bernhardt in the stage play La princesse Lointaine by Edmond Rostand, which she played for the first time in 1895, at the Renaissance Theatre in Paris. Bernhardt's diadem is designed by René Lalique.
