"Happy New Year" - Signed Cabinet Photograph

Right-facing head and shoulders portrait cabinet photograph of the German composer and pianist shown in semi-profile in 1894, photograph by Rudolf Krziwanek, signed by the subject at the upper blank area of the image in dark brown ink, "Johannes Brahms" adding below "Prosit Neujahr!" ("Happy New Year!"). 5.4 x 8 inches [13.5 x 22 cm]. Small chip from upper right corner, and with significant but professionally repaired (glued and filled) cracks diagonally across the photograph and through the last name section upper right, and an additional crack, repaired to verso with archival tape, in the upper left corner. Despite obvious condition faults, the photograph is in stable condition and presents remarkably well in its fine archival matting and framing under UV plexiglass in a hand-gilted wooden frame, 12 x 15 inches (30.5 x 38 cm.) overall.  Read More...

Pen Holder with Engraved Christmas Gift Inscription

Vintage pen holder given as a gift by the the popular American singer and actor whose career stretched over more than half a century and who was the best-selling recording artist until well into the rock era, with over half a billion records in circulation. Onyx stone base, felted bottom, with screw-in gold-plated pen holder and affixed brass finished plate bearing etched facsimile of Bing's autograph writing "Christmas '65 - Bing." Fine. Base 5 x 3 x .75 inches.

Original press photograph ca. 1971 showing the important American composer looking over a score with the conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the chair of the Girard bank of Philadelphia, which had commissioned a new work by Barber for the orchestra. The resulting work, The Lovers (op.43), is scored for baritone, chorus, and orchestra and based on texts of Pablo Neruda. A crisp image in very fine condition. 8 x 10 inches; 25.3 x 20.5 cm.

Transcription pour deux pianos par Paul Braud." An inscribed and hand-corrected early, possibly final proof, printing of the final movement of Franck's symphonic poem Psyché, as arranged for two pianos by Paul Braud, this copy inscribed by the pianist and arranger to the composer's granddaughter, "À Mlle Thérèse César Franck / respectueux hommage de Paul Braud / Les Eolides / 25 Septembre 1905," and inscribed additionally with a further autograph note reading (Translated from the French), "Finished on October 15, 1890 and performed for the first time before César Franck on the 30th of the same month, this transcription is the last piece the author of Psyché ever heard."["Terminée le 15 octobre 1890 et exécutée pour la première fois devant César Franck le 30 du même mois, cette transcription est le dernier morceau qu'ait entendu l'auteur de Psyché"].
