Typed letter signed from the American composer Elliott Carter to composer Wolf Simoni (who later took the name Louis Saguer), recommending the composer David Diamond. June 1, 1938. Translated from the French: "Dear Wolf, This letter is to introduce you to one of my best friends, David Diamond, who is one of our most gifted young composers. I am certain that you will find many interesting things to discuss with him. I learned from Steve that you are thinking about coming to America, which is a very good idea, in my opinion. But you should know that we are also having a crisis here, and that many musicians are out of work. Still, the conditions are better than in France, in my opinion. I don't know if I can help you to come here. In any case write me on this subject as soon as possible, and I will do my best. Your friend, Elliott Carter." Together with the original typed envelope addressed to Wolf Simoni in Paris. Slight smudge to the signature; folding creases; overall fine. 8.5 x 11 inches (21.5 x 27.8 cm). Read More...
