Formen im Kreis - Signed Print on a New Year's Card

New Year's card, 1963, from the German-French artist, with a signed woodcut in colors on the front of the card, on wove paper, and a printed message with inscription on the inside page from Jean and Marguerite Arp. The print is a circular composition in blue, with abstract forms in yellow, red, and green; Arp has signed at the lower left in pencil. On the internal page, he or his wife has added "et merci pour vos voeux" to the printed message of "Bonne Année! / Jean et Marguerite ARP." Signed Christmas card from the important British composer to Betty Randolph Bean, director of Boosey & Hawkes in New York. Inside a card with a reproduction line drawing of the Red House in Aldeburgh and bearing the printed message: "With best wishes for Christmas and the New Year from Ben (at home) and Peter (abroad)," he has added a note: "gone where?" above "Peter," signed "Ben," and added: "Wish I were with you all." New York: Henry Holt and Company. 1946. Short play by the important poet, in which Death and Santa Claus meet and converse. From the collection of the American composer David Diamond, close friend of E. E. Cummings, with his blind stamp to the title page and his scattered underlinings and annotations in pencil throughout. Diamond has further added a note in pencil to the rear pastedown: "[?] did a drawing for the frontispiece, submitted it to Allan Tate, the editor. What happened to it?" 18 pp. Hardcover, red and black cloth with gilt, with dust jacket. Cummings' self-portrait on the rear of the dust jacket. Signed Postcard Photograph with New Year's Wishes

Signed postcard photograph from the Austro-Hungarian composer and conductor known for his operettas, particularly Die Lustige Witwe. He has penned a short note over the image, dated Berlin January 10, 1929 (translated from the German): "Dear Herr Hofrat! I have been ill again... I am still sitting in bed! A little flu! I'm feeling a bit better now, though! Although belated, nevertheless a hearty 'Happy New Year'!! Yours, F. Lehar." Addressed and postmarked on the verso. Fine. 3.5 x 5.5 inches (8.9 x 14 cm).

Autograph Christmas card from the Italian composer, teacher of Puccini and Mascagni at the Milano Conservatory and whose "La Gioconda" remains a favorite. On a small card printed with an image of clasped hands and the words "Buone Feste," he has penned: "Per parte dei conjugi Ponchielli" ("on behalf of the Ponchiellis.") Some soiling; overall very good. 3.75 x 2.25 inches (9.8 x 5.9 cm).

Typed letter signed from the important conductor to an old friend, wishing her a happy new year. December 30, 1966; 1 p. Szell writes to Liesel Herz: "Just back from a little mid-winter vacation, I find in a mountain of mail and Christmas cards your very sweet note. I am really very deeply touched by your remembrance and by the trouble you took in writing me, and hasten to thank you and to wish you a very good New Year. Forgive me for doctating this, but it is the only way for me to catch up with the flood of correspondence. Needless to say, I still very well remember the times when we saw more of each other, almost half a century ago. It is good to know that you are still around and I wish you may be for quite some time to come. Most cordially, George." Early 19th-century autograph manuscript in an unidenified copyist's hand, the choral soprano part to Beethoven's Mass in C major, Op.86. The part is penned over 10 pp., with several passages crossed out and corrected. At the head of p. [3], a section sung by the solo soprano has been written out in error and then struck through. Dynamics and a few other small corrections and annotations have been made throughout in reddish ink. Leaves loosely sewn together at the left. Autograph letter from the important composer to Édouard Thierry ("Mon cher Thierry"), correspondent at the journal Le Messager.  1 p., 8vo. (approx. 13 x 20.5 cm). "Lundi 12" [Paris] [1843]. Regarding the publication by subscription of his "Grand traité d’instrumentation et d’orchestration modernes" op. 10. Translated in part: "Do me the service to write in your next paper, a column on the attached Treaty of Instrumentation, announcing that that the subscription opened at the Publisher will be closed on March 15. I have a very great interest in arriving before this time at a designated number of subscribers..."  ["Rendez moi le service de faire dans votre prochain feuilleton une colonne sur le traité ci joint d’Instrumentation en annoncant que la souscription ouverte chez l’Editeur sera fermée le 15 mars.
