Book-form flask made by the important British silversmiths James Dixon & Sons Ltd of Sheffield, c. 1920.  Upper right corner of the "book" separates to reveal the spout, with the seam masked to appear as part of the cover design.  Light wear, some signs of plate loss and pitting, else fine.  5.25 x 7.25 x 1.25 inches (13.3 x 18.4 x 3.2 cm.), holds 24 Oz.

Large format signed Strauss-Peyton of New York photograph of the legendary lyric soprano, who has inscribed to Charles Drumheller, tenor and longtime rehearsal pianist at the Metropolitan and Chicago Lyric Opera:  "To Mr. Charlie Drumheller / most cordially / Lucrezia Bori / 1926" in black ink.  Moderate wear to edges including small loss to lower left corner, spotting to margins, silvering to edges of image; overall in fine condition.  11 x 14 inches (27.9 x 35.6 cm.).

Mastracco, Visiting Lecturer in Physics & Acoustics at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (NY), expressing his support and best wishes for the preservation of the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.  July 28, 1983; 1 p. on Centre Georges-Pompidou stationary.  Boulez writes, in part, "I had heard about the Troy Music Hall, of course, and I do think that it should be preserved...all I can do is to assure you of my moral support and tell you that I would be very interested to follow what you are doing and any results that you may obtain. / With all my best wishes for your campaign and the best of luck for success in the preservation of the exceptional hall."  Usual mailing creases, small losses and hole punches along left edge, otherwise in fine condition.  8.5 x 11 inches (21.5 x 27.9 cm.). Very uncommon group of four letters from important French composer and conductor, one of the major innovators and forces in 20th century music. Addressed to Dr. Manfred Hubricht, the letters concern the arrangement of four performances of Wozzeck in Frankfurt. Each 1 page, two in French, two in German, dated 21 May to 26 November 1966. Sold together with an original photograph (17.5 x 13 cm) signed in black ink "P Boulez" and stamped by the photographer Jean-Marie Bottequin on the verso. Read More...
