A very rare original 1903 concert program from the great Belgian violinist and important Russian pianist-composer. Appearing at the Grand Hall of the Russian Noble Assembly on December 8, 1903, the duo performed sonatas by Tchaikovsky and Bach, as well as solo works by Rachmaninov, Guiraud, Arenskiy, Chopin, Taneyev, Glazunov, Vieuxtemps, and Ysaÿe. 2 pp. of a bifolium. A rare early signed photograph of the German-born Austrian conductor, widely considered one of the greatest conductors of the twentieth century. He is shown as a younger man ca. 1962, wearing glasses and a tie, and has signed in blue pen at the lower right. Photographed by Liselotte Strelow of Düsseldorf, with her stamp on the verso, and dated in pencil on the verso: July 11, 1962. One slight chip at the right edge; overall fine. 4 x 6 inches (10.5 x 14.9 cm).

Original 1969 program page signed by the brilliant young conductor, later known for his long tenure with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.  The program is dated February 13-17, 1969, when Ozawa was guest conductor for the New York Philharmonic in their performances of the Berlioz Requiem to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Berlioz's death.  Left edge rough; slightly discolored; otherwise in fine condition.  20.3 x 25.5 cm.

Autograph Musical Quotations

Autograph musical quotation from the legendary Austrian-Hungarian conductor who conducted the very first Bayreuth Festival, and in 1877 shared the conductorship of the Wagner festival in London with the composer. Richter has penned two short Wagnerian themes: at the left the march theme from Die Meistersinger, and at the right the "Ride of the Valkyries" theme from Die Walküre. He has signed boldly between the two quotations and dated Edinburgh, October 21, 1896. Trimmed from a small album leaf to 5 x 1.5 inches (12.8 x 4.2 cm). In very fine condition.

Original visiting card from the important ballet pedagogue, signed and inscribed by Cecchetti on the verso. Translated from the French: "Please excuse the delay in replying to your letter. Here, Monsieur, is the autograph which you desired for your collection. Enrico Cecchetti." Together with the original envelope, addressed to an N. Milne Harrop in London and postmarked 1919. Large signed photograph of the American choreographer and early pioneer of the modern dance movement in America, founder with Ted Shawn of the Denishawn dance company. She is shown seated, apparently in a meditation pose, wearing Indian-inspired robes and flanked by two ornamental shrubs, and has signed and inscribed at the upper left. Autograph letter from the important ballet impresario and founder of the Ballets Russes, signed "Serge Diaghilev." Two pages, 5 x 7, Hotel de Paris letterhead, February 14, 1926. Letter to ballet critic Edwin Evans, in full: "Nemtchinova and Zverev have permission to dance outside my troupe during the months of February and March. I have also allowed them to accept an engagement with Cochran during this period, after which they will return to me. I send you with gratitude the fruits of Pasquier's troupe. Currently we are showing the new ballet of Auric [Pastorale] which is very beautiful, but quite complicated. If we can arrange the London season, I am going to create my first English ballet with music of Lambert, which I think you know." "All the years I was busy at the larynx activities" - Typed Letter Signed

Typed letter signed from the important singer and actress, regarding a back injury and her activities in wartime. 1 p., May 20, 1942. Farrar writes: "Dear Alice; To you and Charles, go my thanks and appreciation of your thought and the charming expressions of your sympathy. It has been so absurd to have a kink in the back, for having been 'leg-lazy' all the years I was busy at the larynx actives; I must persist, however, due to the gas ration that is slim [...] So I shall attempt the bikes in due time with less enthusiasm." She goes on to thank her correspondents for their offer to pick her up for a visit, and reports on the illness of her cook. On her Ridgefield, Connecticut letterhead. Slightly wrinkled with some toning; overall fine. 7.25 x 10.5 inches (18.5 x 26.7 cm).
