Original playbill cover from the 1969 musical Coco, signed by the great American actress and Hollywood star Joan Crawford. The cover features an image of Katharine Hepburn, in her only stage musical role as Coco Chanel. Crawford, while she did not appear in the show, may have been in the audience to see Hepburn, her friend and possible rival. Coco opened in December 1969 and ran for 329 performances. [Florodora Girls]. Signed Photograph Postcard with Floral Headdresses
Amusing signed postcard from the Edwardian musical comedy Florodora (1899), showing three of its eponymous chorus girls in large floral headdresses. Signed at the bottom: "Yours truly, Floradora Girls." The musical was a hit in the West End and on Broadway, with multiple revivals in both cities, and more than 70 girls cycled in and out of its chorus, enjoying the adoration of the public. I've always been more interested in what painters have to say—because painting interests me more than acting. You do it by yourself, you don't say somebody else's lines." Original program from the 1948 Boston previews of the musical revue Lend an Ear, signed on the cover by twelve members of the cast. Lend an Ear, with a book, music, and lyrics by Charles Gaynor and additional sketches by Joseph Stein and Will Glickman,was a breakthrough production for the young Carol Channing. The members of the cast (described in the New York Times as "some fresh-grown youngsters whose talents have not been corrupted yet") who have signed are: Yvonne Adair, Anne Renee Anderson, Dorothy Babbs, William Eythe, Nancy Franklin, Gloria Hamilton, Bob Herget, Beverly Hosier, Gene Nelson, Bob Scheerer, Jeanine Smith, and William Tabbert. Tabbert would star the following year in South Pacific, and Nelson would go on to Lullaby of Broadway (opposite Doris Day), Oklahoma! and later, Follies. Dated the week of December 6, 1948.
