New York: M. Witmark & Sons. [copyright 1944]. Score to the American composer's piano work Seven Anniversaries, signed on the front cover in black felt tip. 10 pp. In very fine condition. 8.5 x 11 inches (21.5 x 28 cm).

The piano composition Seven Anniversaries was composed in 1943 and consists of seven movements, each written for a different person in Bernstein’s life, including Serge Koussevitzky, Aaron Copland, and William Schuman. Bernstein would write several more similar sets of "anniversary pieces" in following years.

Two original programs from the first New York and London productions of the beloved musical. Playbill dated September 30, 1957 from the Broadway production of West Side Story which opened at the Winter Garden on September 26; 64 pp, with two press clippings of reviews. Program from the London production at Her Majesty's Theatre, which opened on December 12, 1958; 14 pp. Some light edge wear to the London program, but overall very fine. 6.75 x 9.25 inches (17 x 23.5 cm).

A very interesting and important typed letter signed from the innovative and influential American composer, a response to a letter from a young woman reacting to one of his lectures. December 9, 1955. 1 p. Writing to teenager Anita Oliver Bullard (later the wife of literary critic Frank Kermode), Cage responds in typically abstruse fashion to her questions: "Much that I said has no particular meaning, having been arrived at by means of chance operations. An interesting collection of signed program pages from twenty concerts of the late 1940's to 1950's in London, with autographs from many important performers of the era. The signatures include: conductors Sir Malcolm Sargent (several signatures), Stanley Pope, Pierino Gamba, and Carlo Maria Giulini; pianists Eileen Joyce, Alceo Galliera, Ventsislav Yankoff, Cyril Smith, and Daniel Wayenberg; violinists Zlatko Balokovic, Paul Beard, and David Wise; cellist Aleco Athanassiades; and singers Jennifer Vyvyan, Marjorie Thomas, William Herbert, Trevor Anthony, Elsie Morison, Dennis Noble, Webster Booth, Richard Lewis, Norman Walker, Gladys Ripley, John Cameron, Ena Mitchell, Mary Jarred, Luigi Infantino, Valetta Iacopi, Victoria Sladen, Ada Alsop, Margaret McArthur, Harold Williams, James Johnston, Henry Wendon, Elsie Suddaby, Anna Reynolds, David Ward, Roderick Jones, Constance Shacklock. "Lied aus der Opera Martha" - Autograph Musical Manuscript

Autograph musical manuscript from the German composer's best-known work, the romantic comic opera Martha. On a large leaf of hand-ruled manuscript paper are penned the parts for an arrangement of the "Lied aus der Oper Martha," for solo cornet and flugelhorn, 3 trumpets, 3 tenor horns, and bass. The music appears to be a shortened arrangement of the most famous aria from the opera, "Die letzte Rose," lasting only 29 measures. The verso shows 14 measures of open score in another hand, labeled "Coda." Heavy vertical folding crease; area of wear at the left side; overall toning. Mounting remnants to verso. The playbill features an engraving depicting a giraffe in the courtyard of the Leopoldstädter Theater in Vienna, with "well-known characters from the best-loved plays of the author."
