Original lithograph, ca. 1830, of two gypsies in traditional dress, the man playing a violin. Engraved by J. Trentsensky of Vienna as no. 22 in a series of images of couples in the traditional dress of various regions and eras. Some light foxing at the edges but overall in fine condition and a striking image. 8.75 x 14 inches (22.3 x 36 cm).

Signed photograph of the American pianist, harpsichordist and restorer and collector of period instruments, grandniece of Martin Van Buren. She is shown dressed in period costume and seated at a virginal, and has signed and inscribed at the lower right. The open virginal is inscribed with the morale in Jean de la Fontaine’s fable PHÉBUS ET BORÉE (Livre VI, Fable III) "Plus fait douceur que violence" ("Gentleness succeeds better than violence").  Slightly unevenly trimmed with overall toning; otherwise fine. 8 x 10 inches (19.5 x 25.7 cm).

Ysaÿe is shown as a younger man in a brooding pose with his violin under his arm, and has penned (translated from the French): "A friendly souvenir for Marcel Chailley with all my admiration for his professional work." Signed program from the Hungarian conductor, who directed the Radio-Symphonie-Orchester Berlin in a program of Bartok with violinist Yehudi Menuhin as part of the Wiener Festwochen 1961. Fricsay has signed over the first page of the program, which included Bartok's Violin Concerto and Concerto for Orchestra. 4 pp., with a striking white-on-black drawing to the cover by Fritz Wotruba. Some very light scratches; overall fine. 5.5 x 8.25 inches (14 x 21 cm).

Stunning set of three original action photographs of the great conductor, shown during recordings for Paramount's "The Big Broadcast of 1937." Original press captions on the verso of each explain Stokowski's gestures: he calls for "more and richer vibrato tone" in the cellos, "gives a cue to his brilliant brass section," and "eases off the intensity of sound from one section of his famous orchestra, and guides the playing of another..." Souvenir Serge De Diaghileff's BALLET RUSSE - Original 1916 Tour Program

An important piece of ballet history, an original 1916 souvenir program from the first American tour of the Ballet Russe, with full-color illustrations of costumes by Leon Bakst (and others). 9 x 12 pages. 36 pages, with many full-color illustrations and photographs, including a photograph of Nijinsky in Spectre de la Rose and Bakst's Nijinsky as Faun. Program includes ballet descriptions, an itinerary, and 2 pgs of ads. Pages are of thick ivory uncoated paper, cover is thick mottled brown paper, with embossed gold art and letters. This is a particularly rare copy, in that it features the superb illustration of Nijinsky in Scheherezade by Robert Montenegro on the cover. This is the more uncommon variant of the program, which is more commonly found with a different illustration on the cover. Edge wear to the cover with a small loss to the lower right and some toning, partial separation along the spine; overall very good. 9.25 x 12.25 inches (23.3 x 31.3 cm).
