Scarce monograph on the two Stradivarius violins once owned by double bass virtuoso Domenico Dragonetti, inscribed to violinist Ferenc Kiss on the title by the author, luthier Claude Lebet, and dated [19]95; also inscribed to Kiss on p. 14 by virtuoso Frank Peter Zimmermann (who performed on one of the Dragonetti instruments for many years) "in memory of Barber—of both our Strads." With 6 color photographs of the two violins, and portraits of Dragonetti and the young Maria and Teresa Milanollo. In French and English. 34 pp. No. 340 of the edition of 500. Quarter leather binding, in very fine condition. 6.75 x 10.5 inches (17 x 26.7 cm).

Halftone portrait photograph of the Lyonnaise composer and pianist, signed and inscribed by Trillat at the foot. Photographed by Manuel of Paris. One large hole and a corner crease; overall in good condition. 5.5 x 7.5 inches (13.6 x 19 cm).

The French pianist Ennemond Trillat gave several important Ravel premieres and served as director of the Lyon Conservatoire, as well as pianist of the Trio Trillat.

Original 1927 press photograph showing a Native American man wrapped in a blanket and playing a tuba. Cringeworthy press caption on the verso reads: "The Indian is noted as being stoical and silent. He never 'blows his own horn.' But here's Chief Mu-Sha-Tass blowing his first note on the heavy brass as he practices for the red skin band organized at the Glacier National Park Reservation." Original photograph postcard of the great tenor in costume, boldly signed by Caruso across the image and dated New York, 1905-1906. He is shown in his role as the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto, the celebrated role in which he had made his Covent Garden debut in 1902 and his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1903. Mounting remnants on verso, slight curling to postcard, trimmed to 8.1 x 12 cm.

Signed 8 x 10 inch portrait photograph of the supreme Norwegian soprano. Flagstad is shown smiling in a magnificent fur coat and has signed and inscribed at the foot to a Mr. Toler C. Lemley. Rather poor contrast on the signature, but otherwise a lovely image in fine condition. 20.3 x 25.4 cm.

Rare signed postcard photograph of the great contralto who died tragically young. She is shown ca. 1951, only about 2 years before her death, and has signed below the image: "With best wishes, Kathleen Ferrier." Photographed by Vivienne and stamped on the verso. 9 x 14 cm. In very fine condition.

Bruno Walter wrote of Ferrier “No summit of solemnity was inaccessible to her, and it was particularly music of spiritual meaning that seemed her most personal domain.”

Original Verdi Club Program

Original program from a 1938 concert given by the Verdi Club, the musical society of which notoriously awful soprano Florence Foster Jenkins was the founder and president. The concert, a "Morning Musicale" on November 9, 1938, featured the music of Renato Bellini, performed by Bellini at the piano and Thalia Sabanieeva, soprano. The front cover of the program prominently displays Jenkins' name, below a raised gold bust of Verdi. Distinguished guests and honorary members listed on the inside cover include Enrico Caruso and Moritz Rosenthal. 4 pp. Fold partially split, with two small repairs in archival tape; one heavy folding crease; light pencil remnants at the head of the cover; overall in very good condition. 6 x 8.25 inches (15.2 x 21 cm). Signed photograph of the German soprano who sang in the Berlin premiere of Parsifal (1914) and appeared widely in the United States during the 1930's before becoming a professor at Indiana University. She is shown in a Wagnerian costume and has boldly signed and inscribed the photograph to Paul Heinecke, the U.S. director of the important music publishers Breitkopf & Härtel, dated March 31, [19]29. Some rubbing and scratches to the surface; overall in very good condition. 8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm).

Jumbo original gravure photograph boldly signed and inscribed by the Golden Age Australian soprano in 1898. Photograph signed Histed [Ernest Walter Histed] and dated 1897 within the negative lower left, inscribed and signed in brown ink on the lower mount by Melba. Gravure with significant rippling from the surface of the mount and with two sections cracking along the ripples. Block of toning around the mount, mounting remnants and small losses to corners/edges, otherwise good. 9.5 x 11.5 inches [24 x 29 cm]; 12 x 14.5 inches [31 x 37 cm] overall.
