Twenty-One Drawings of the Russian Ballet - COPY #1, SIGNED

London: Davis & Orioli. 1920. A large portfolio of 21 looseleaf drawings of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes by the English painter Laura Knight. The drawings primarily depict Tamara Karsavina and Léonide Massine in Massine's "Le Tricorne." From an edition of 350 copies, of which this is no. 1, and is signed below the number by the artist. Soiling and water damage to the portfolio, the preliminary text and limitation page quite foxed, but with the drawings generally in very good condition, with modest toning around the edges and a few small edge creases.  33.5 x 42 cm.

Rare original prospectus program from the 1916 - 1917 US tour of Serge de Diaghileff's Ballet Russe. "Morning Prayer" - Original Dance Photograph

A striking pair of press photographs printed side-by-side, depicting the modern dancer (and later, economic analyst) John Bovingdon performing his "Morning Prayer" dance ritual at a service of the "Church of Rhythmic Activity" at Carnegie Hall in 1923. Original press caption on the verso reads: "... A dozen women made up Bovingdon's first congregation and his 'clerical' costume consisted of knickers, gold hose, tan shoes, and a white silk shirt. He is seen here illustrating his rhythmic 'morning prayer' which puts him in tune with the infinite and leads to peace of earth, harmony, good will, high ideals and true [religious] feeling." He has signed and inscribed on the front free endpaper to Paul McMahon and dated Jacob's Pillow, July 1, 1961; the book has also been inscribed to McMahon on the page of the preface by Jacob's Pillow photographer John Lindquist. Typed Postcard Signed

Typed postcard signed from the well-known creator of the Playboy brand to actress and comedian Lucille Ball. Postmarked March 27, 1978. Hefner asks: "Are you teaching a class at Sherwood Oaks This fall? I would like to enroll."  He signs: "HH." Ball had taught a six-week course on comedy acting at the Sherwood Oaks Experimental College, a professional film school in Los Angeles, in 1977. A remarkable item connecting two media legends.

Signed photograph of the Russian-American actor in his iconic role as King Mongkut of Siam, with a program from The King and I. Together with copies of two letters from the collector and a "very devoted fan," Barbara Wright, to the star, regarding the acquisition of the signed photo. Brynner has signed boldly in black marker at the upper left. Both photograph and and program are in pristine condition.
