267. [History] [Holocaust] [Barber, Samuel. (1910–1981)] Zander, Otto..
Weimar: Bekenntnis und Tat. Kultupolitisches Arbeitslager der Reichsjugendführung, 1938 - FROM SAMUEL BARBER'S COLLECTION

Berlin: Wilhelm Limpert-Verlag. 1938. A propagandistic commemorative book about the 1938 summer gathering of the Hitler Youth, from the collection of the important American composer. The book contains many interesting (and chilling) photographs of the huge youth "Arbeitslager," including many of musical and opera performances, group athletics and an exhibition of books, art, and records. Included are: an original letter from the Hitler-Jugend/Reichsjugendführung sending this copy of the book to the magazine "Die Literatur" and firmly requesting that a full article about it be published [November 21, 1938, 1 p.]; a flyer advertising the book [4 pp.] and a card from "Die Literatur" requesting from a reviewer a short blurb of 30 lines "only if the book gives occasion for a literary evaluation" [February 16, 1939, 1 p.]. Die Unbesungen Helden - THE ONLY KNOWN BOOK SIGNED BY OSKAR SCHINDLER

Berlin: Arani. [1957]. First Edition.

A truly remarkable rarity, the only known book signed by the German industrialist credited with saving almost 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust by employing them in his enamelware and ammunitions factories.  This volume inscribed and signed by Oskar Schindler to his wife Emilie and dated Christmas 1957, Frankfurt am Main. Schindler has penned (translated from the German): "To my dear Mily in remembrance of her courageous time." 8vo, original cloth, original dust jacket. Staining around the edges of the cloth with some skinning and degradation to the bottom approx. 1 cm of spine, a few small stains to the early and final pages, scattered light foxing; jacket in very good condition with areas of color variance from light exposure. Provenance: from the estate of Emilie Schindler and thence by descent. Oskar Schindler did not publish any books himself and we have located no other volumes signed by him on the market in over 50 years of records.  Read More...
