AMQS from the leading Italian orchestral conductor who also composed music for the stage and concert hall. On a Titian postcard, Mancinelli has penned four bars from his sacred cantata Isaias (1887), on a text by Giuseppe Albini. Dated December 1904. Signed half-tone photograph of the important Russian-born conductor, taken from a concert program from his February 21, 1956 performance of Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 5 and Sibelius' Violin Concerto with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and David Oistrakh. Malko has boldly signed below his photograph in red ink. The concert program appears on the verso; another hand has dated the page at the upper edge. Rough edges and some light edge wear; overall in fine condition. Single sheet, 5.5 x 8.5 inches (14 x 21.2 cm).

"Dido's Lament" - Monteux's String Parts With His Markings

String parts for the beloved aria from Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, from the music library of the Pierre Monteux School for conducting in Hancock, Maine, and with Monteux's original markings. Three first violin parts, two second violin parts, two viola parts and three cello/bass parts, are each 1 p. facsimiles of hand-copied parts, stamped with the music library stamp of the school and numbered in pencil at the upper left corner. Nine of the ten have further markings such as accidentals, cuts, and note names, in pencil or colored pencil, showing that the piece was once performed a minor third lower and with a cut of eight measures at the end. In a card stock folded cover with the piece's title in black marker. Overall light toning, otherwise in fine condition. Parts 9.5 x 12.5 inches (24.3 x 32 cm); cover 11 x 14.25 inches (28.5 x 36.3 cm). From the estate of Monteux's daughter, Nancie Monteux Barendse.

A concert-used and signed baton from the conductor who led the Philadelphia Orchestra for 40 years. In fine condition, accompanied by a signed photograph (in only good condition - also please note that photograph is sold unframed), a 1975-76 Philadelphia Orchestra brochure with Ormandy and Rubinstein, as well as a Verdi Requiem program from the Muti-conducted Philadelphia Orchestra memorial concert for Ormandy,May 12, 1985. From the collection of a well-known patron of the Philadelphia Orchestra, who assembled a large collection of concert-used batons (his collection also included older examples not obtained in person) of many makes and models.  Read More...

An interesting collection of thirteen original concert programs of the Regia Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, dating from 1910 to 1916 and featuring guest conductors Richard Strauss, Arturo Toscanini, Vincent D'Indy, Pietro Mascagni, Bruno Walter, Rodolfo Ferrari, Luigi Mancinelli, Willem Mengelberg, and Ernst von Schuch, and organist Charles Widor. Attractive postcard Mishkin photograph of the great tenor in costume for "Manon." Boldly signed and inscribed: "To Miss Everett D. Farr Enrico Caruso Havana 1920," 5.25 x 3.25 inches. Some silvering to the photograph, but with the inscription and signature very bold and sold together with the original transmissal envelope, addressed in Caruso's hand and postmarked from "Habana, Cuba."

An interesting autograph letter from the Italian opera composer, asking a friend to send him fashion plates from 50 years earlier as inspiration for his opera Zazà. Dated Milan, February 8, 1903. Translated from the French, in part: "Dear friend and collaborator - In my long letter of yesterday, I forgot to ask you a big favor which only you can accomplish for me! I need some illustrations from fashion magazines of the years from 1850 to 1855, the early years of the Second Empire. Illustrations of men and women with indications of the fabrics and colors for both sexes! It is for Zazà, I would like to recall if the dress of that era is more picturesque than that of our own. Early autograph note from the Austrian soprano who appeared at the Hofoper in Vienna and later taught at the Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst for many years. She has penned three lines, dated September 24, 1896, arranging a meeting on the following day between 4 and 5 pm. Signed: Paula Mark. With the original envelope, addressed to a Herrn Zisorsky at the Montagszeitung, Vienna. Slight wear to the envelope, which has been slit open very precisely; note in very fine condition. 4.5 x 3.5 inches (11.4 x 8.6 cm).
