An attractive Art Nouveau-designed page with the date 1913, signed at the foot by the great Hungarian composer and pianist. A central image of two swans is surrounded by floral designs; the date, circular border and decorative motifs below are printed in gold. Bartok has inscribed at the head to "Bartók Ilonának" and signed in green ink at the bottom "Béla Bartok." Autograph letter, signed “JB,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, to his publisher Fritz Simrock, in Berlin. 4.25 x 5.5, January 4, 1896. In part (translated from German): “Let’s leave it as it is: me in the hotel, the pretty ladies ("hübschen Weibchen") at your place. I will also profit by it: when they are comfortably settled, they will receive me that much more kindly; but can they do that from an uncomfortable hotel, what good will eel, snails and the good Mosel [wine] be to me!? On Tuesday I am not coming, by the way, and our hotel is not the Ascanisher Hof. So don’t go to needless trouble. In any case, looking forward, if not to the most enjoyable days this time, then to cozy and hopefully merry hours at Zeich’s.” Double-matted and framed with a portrait of the composer to an overall size of 20.5 x 12.5, with a window on the reverse for viewing of the first page. Three original photographs of the great composer, photographed ca. 1893-6 by his friend Maria Fellinger and all on her own gold-embossed mounts. Brahms is shown looking out of a window (this photograph is dated in several sources as Easter Monday, March 26, 1894); leaning on one arm over the back of his chair, facing the camera and holding a cigar between his fingers; and sitting outside next to an empty garden chair, also holding a cigar. Light toning; a few very light surface marks; adhesive mounting remnants on the versos of all three photographs, but not affecting the recto. Overall in fine condition. Gravure photograph of the great composer by Maria Fellinger, published by V. A. Heck of Vienna. In one of the several fine photographs Fellinger made of Brahms between 1893 and 1896, he is shown outside, leaning sideways over the back of his chair and holding one of his signature cigars, facing the camera. Signed Photograph with Autograph Musical Quotation of the VIOLIN CONCERTO NO.1

Original cabinet photograph of the important German composer, inscribed on the verso to the Italian composer Leone Sinigaglia with an autograph musical quotation from Bruch's Violin Concerto no. 1. Bruch is shown in an elaborate smoking jacket and cap, photographed by E. Bieber of Berlin and Hamburg, the photograph embossed with the date of 1900 at the lower right. On the verso, he has inscribed to Leone Sinigaglia and dated Berlin, March 28, 1901, with a musical quotation of three measures from the second movement of his Violin Concerto no. 1, op. 26. Light toning, a few scratches to the verso and one area of light soiling to the recto; overall in fine condition, with the photograph itself very fine. Cabinet card 4.25 x 6.5 inches (10.7 x 16.4 cm), matted on both sides to 6.75 x 9.5 inches (17 x 24 cm). Signed document from the Polish composer and pianist, confirming receipt of an advance of 1000 francs on delivered manuscripts to the Parisian publisher Eugène-Théodore Troupenas. 1 page. Paris, March 14, 1840. 10.3 x 20,5 cm. The document prepared by a representative of the publishing company, signed by the composer in full "Fréderic Chopin." The verso of the present receipt is printed "Dépôt Central de la Librairie et de la Musique, Rue des Filles St. Thomas № 5/Place de la Bourse" and "Paris, le 183/M." Slåtter (Norwegian Peasant Dances), op. 72 - SIGNED AND INSCRIBED TO JULIUS RONTGEN

Leipzig: C. F. Peters. [1903]. Important copy of the beloved Norwegian composer's Slåtter (Norwegian Peasant Dances) for piano, op. 72, signed and inscribed by Grieg on the title page to the German-Dutch composer and pianist Julius Röntgen. He has penned in Danish: "Til min kjaere Julius Röntgen med Tak for alle "Stråler" og til Erindring om Frue Haagen fra din Edvard Grieg" ("To my dear Julius Röntgen with thanks for the "rays" and in remembrance of Troldhaugen, yours, Edvard Grieg") and dated July 27, 1905. The word "rays" refers to Röntgen's personal "magnetism" or charm, with a humorous reference to X-rays, the discovery of Röntgen's more famous relative, Wilhelm Konrad Röntgen. Troldhaugen, in Bergen, was Edvard Grieg's home and is now home to the Grieg Museum. Light performance markings in pencil throughout, likely in Röntgen's hand, as well as various notes in pencil on the wrappers. 53 pp. [PN] 8918. "Ask Piatigorsky, or Schuster or Graudan" - Autograph Postcard

An autograph postcard from the important German composer to cellist Rudolf Döblin, apologizing that he cannot help find a piece of sheet music, apparently for one of his own Cello Sonatas, which he humorously refers to as "that questionable sonata" and refers Döblin to three of the greatest cellists of the era (Gregor Piatigorsky, Joseph Schuster, and Nikolai Graudan.) Postmarked Great Barrington, MA, September 23, 1943. Hindemith writes: "Dear Döblins, thanks for your letter! The only advice concerning that questionable sonata I can give, is that you might ask Piatigorsky, or Schuster, or Graudan, or... or... It is not to be found in the composer's shelves. The document is affixed to its original 8.5 x 12.5 “Assignment of Copyright” blue paper jacket; stapled to the left side of the page is an 8 x 4 card entitled “Copyright Office of the United States of America The Library of Congress” acknowledging assignment of the copyright, with the its bright red seal and blue ribbons attached.
