A bold autograph from the longtime Boston Symphony Conductor, on an album page, 11.5 x 18.5 cm.


Charles Münch was Music Director of the Boston Symphony from 1949 to 1962 and Director of the Berkshire Music Festival/Center (Tanglewood) from 1951 to 1962. As BSO conductor, he resumed "the policy initiated there by Monteux in the 1920s of making the Boston SO the chief agent for the introduction of new French music to the American public." Nicely mounted and elaborately framed with a printed portrait to approx. 18 x 22 inches overall. Beautiful original doubleweight photograph of the Alsatian organist/philosopher/theologian/physician speaking with the important conductor, who - according to a note in pencil on the verso - had just completed a performance of Brahms's Second Symphony in June of 1954. 17.7 x 23.7 cm and in very fine condition.

4 November, 1866. Issue 035. Large folio with colored front illustration, 4pp. 33 x 48 cm. Usual folds, reinforced along spine, else fine.

The illustration shows the composer riding a large violin, wearing a rose garland and conducting a swirling cloud of characters from his operas. Andre Gill, regularly persecuted by censorship, was probably the greatest caricaturist of his time in Paris.
