Mengelberg' in bold, dark fountain pen ink across a clear area at the base of the image and further signed and inscribed to the verso and dated Frankfurt, October 1910 in his hand. 8.5 x 13.7 cm. Very fine.

An interesting inscription to the popular ballerina/choreographer and musical theatre actress who was Balanchine's second wife. The inscription refers to her collaboration with Bernstein on Milhaud's opera based on Aeschylean tragedy.

In 1942, Miller joined the U.S. Air Force and organized the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band to entertain the troops. In December 1944, on a flight from England to Paris, the plane Miller was traveling in disappeared over the English Channel and was never found.

Autograph poem in an unknown English hand, ca. 1815. A fiery poem addressed to the losing Napoleon, the "haughty Foe," fighting hopelessly as "British thunder strikes the blow." Seven 4-line stanzas, neatly penned on a sheet of 11 x 17.5 cm paper with raised impressed decorative border. Mounted to a slightly larger album page, additional clippings on verso, a few small tears repaired, generally fine.
