Casals has penned the opening 2 measures of the Bach Suite No. 3 in C major, BWV 1009, identifying it as "Bach Prelude" and signing below in full. On a card measuring 3 x 2.3 inches laid down to an 8 x 10 inch sheet with a mounted sepia halftone portrait of Casals and additional similar images on the verso.
Fine solid bronze medal of the great cellist, struck in very high relief by Medallic Art Co. The recto featuring Casals in profile with his cello, the verso with music, Peace doves encircling his bow, draped with a U.N. flag. 50 mm.

Together with a laid-in printed visiting card inscribed by the composer to a singer who will sing the celebrated role: "Cordial hommage a une adorable Louise souvent regrettée qui lira dans ce livre l'histoire de l'heroine qu'elle illustra." In very fine condition.
Autograph letter, signed "L. Cherubini," from the Italian-born composer who spent most of his working life in France and whom Beethoven regarded as the greatest of his contemporaries. Addressed to Madame Montgerault, 1 page, 8vo. No date [Samedi 12], but evidently after 1816 when he was appointed "surintendant de la musique du roi" under the restored monarchy of Louis XVIII. In French, in full: "I have the honor, Madame, to have reserved you three places for the King's Mass; I think you will need to have an escort to accompany you to the chateau. Take care to arrive at 11 o'clock precisely to the chapel vestibule where all of the assembled guests will be met by Mr. Levesque and then taken to their places. Please accept, Madame, my respectful hommage, from your devoted servant and admirer." With a few light stains, repaired tear, else fine. Sold together with a vintage postcard portrait.
