A remarkable large presentation heliogravure photograph by Victor Angerer with inset oval images of each of the 110 players of the Vienna Philharmonic and in the center, its conductor Gustav Mahler. Gifted to composer Jules Massenet by the orchestra and inscribed in a neat calligraphic hand at the top "Souvenir / offert à M. Massenet / Vienne, Mars 1902." 42.5 x 49 cm. With several scuffs and a few chipped areas, several layers of grime over the image. In unfortunate condition, but a historic association and a piece worthy of restoration. Read More...

A pair of miniature lithographed portraits, one of Malibran and one of Grisi. [London]: A. Schloss, 1836 [and c. 1836]. Each 1/2" x 3/4", plus margins to 1 1/4" x 2 1/4"; printed to ivory card with gilt edges; one with decorative die-cut border; hand tinted; laid down to a portion of an early album leaf; each portrait with an early decorative-lace appliqué frame; light soiling. Very charming Lilliputian half-length portraits of the two singers, both with handsome original hand coloring. That of Malibran has two lines of minuscule text, a publisher's name, and a decorative die-cut edge.

Signed 5.5 x 8 inch Apeda photograph of the pioneering Tin Pan Alley music publisher who went on to have hits through the 1930s and 1940s, including 1930’s “The Peanut Vendor” and Billie Holiday’s classic 1939 hit “Strange Fruit.” Small tear from right edge, lower right corner perished and with a few creases.

"Iris" - Original Program for Performance Conducted by the Composer

Original program from a 1922 performance of his "Iris," at the Teatro Urquiza in Montevideo, Uruguay. Mascagni himself conducted and the lead roles were performed by Gilda Dalla Rizza and Hipolito Lazzaro. Two hole-punches, else fine. Full of fabulous period advertisements and early photographs of the composer and singers.

Pietro Mascagni was a beloved figure in Latin America and made several tours to Argentina and Uruguay. His opera "Isabeau" received its world premiere in Buenos Aires.

The composer has penned 4 measures from his "Cavalleria Rusticana," identifying them as from the opera and including the text "Fior di Giaggiolo...," inscribing to "Madame la Baronne de Reinach" as a "Souvenir de Frankfurt," signing boldly beneath and dating "14-10-'95." ANS on mourning stationary from the composer's widow.

A short note from the composer's widow on mourning stationary, together with the envelope addressed to Monsieur Fortuné Rousselet. She thanks him for his kind thoughts and tells him that she is sending him some "objets ayant servi a mon mari." Dated April 12, 1913.

The composer was introduced to his future wife by Franz Liszt, while he was in Italy after having won the Prix de Rome in 1863. The couple was married in 1866.
