Pair of hand-colored engravings depicting the French opera singers Antoinette Saint-Huberty and Augustin-Anastase Chéron in costume for the composer's opera Iphigénie en Aulide ca. 1800.  The captions read "Costume de Mlle. "The Only Time He Frowns" - Photograph of Lazzari bowling with his wife.

Amusing photograph of the Italian bass, a longtime performer with the Chicago Civic Opera and Metropolitan Opera, bowling in his backyard, a look of great intensity and concentration upon his face.  The typewritten press note (mounted to verso and viewable if folded below the lower portion of the image) reads "The Only Time He Frowns / Virgilio Lazzari has transformed part of his lawn into a bowling green.  Unusually the good natured basso of the Chicago Civic Opera Company is smiling, but when he bowls it is a very serious matter.  Mrs. Lazzari watches, ready to applaud or sympathize."  One-inch tear to right margin, uneven trim to upper portion of photograph, overall in fine condition.  8 x 12 inches (20.3 x 30.5 cm.).

Bulògna: Voulp al Sass.. 1830. 16mo.  12 pp.  Unusual and rare panegyric poem composed in dialect by Italian writer Caméll Minarèll, honoring Maria Malibran, creator of Donizetti's Maria Stuarda and works by Bellini and Mendelssohn, one of the most celebrated singers in history, whose early death at the age of 28 contributed to her status as a figure of legend. An extraordinary association copy from the collection of the 20th Century's greatest soprano, originally acquired in the historic 2007 Sotheby's Auction "Maria Callas and her Pygmalion - Her life with Giovanni Battista Meneghini."  Bound in pale pink paper boards. Signed doubleweight Fernand de Gueldre of Chicago portrait photograph the Mexican tenor and film actor who retired from show business to become a Franciscan friar.  Mojica has inscribed to Charles Drumheller, tenor and longtime rehearsal pianist at the Metropolitan and Chicago Lyric Opera:  "To my friend Chas. H. / Drumheller a remembrance / of our 1924–25 season—Most / sincerely / José Mojica / Chicago Civic Opera."  Small area of spotting to left margin, small loss to lower left corner, else in fine condition.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.).

Press photograph of the American contralto with four Native Americans of the Oglala Tribe in ceremonial dress.  The typewritten press note mounted to to the lower portion of the photograph reads "Welcome Golden Voiced Eagle / For services to the Indian Fellowship Society Cyrena Van Gordon, prima donna of the Chicago Civic Opera company, was adopted recently into the Ogallah [sic.] Sioux tribe and was christened Golden Voiced Eagle.  She is seen here receiving congratulations of Princess Silver Toes.  Chief Buffalo Bear and Mrs. Buffalo Bear are shown in the back ground."  Top margin trimmed, else in fine condition.  With press note, measures 8 x 14 inches (20.3 x 35.6 cm.). Unusual signed and uninscribed closeup 8 x 10 inch black and white photograph of the great singer, known as the “First Lady of Song,” widely regarded as the one of finest jazz vocalists of all time. An image of the singer in her glorious prime, signed later with her name alone across the image in bold black ink, evidently very late in life after diabetes had left her largely blind. In fine condition.
