1911 Royal Opera House Programme, Printed on Silk

Programme from a June 26, 1911 State Performance of the Royal Opera at Covent Garden, in honor of the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary. The performance included the Russian Ballet with Nijinsky, Karsavina, Cecchetti, Nijinska and others in "Le Pavillon d'Armide," as well as scenes from Aïda, Roméo et Juliette, and Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Nellie Melba sang the role of Juliette, and Luisa Tetrazzini followed in the role of Rosina. Attractively printed on silk, fringed around the edges, with the Royal insignia and a decorative border with portraits of the King and Queen. Mounted onto linen and attractively framed. Usual creases with partial separations along the central vertical fold and a couple of small pulls or holes elsewhere to fabric, otherwise in fine condition. 12.5 x 18 inches (31.5 x 45.5 cm), mounted to an overall size of 15 x 21 inches (38 x 53 cm.) overall.

Matte finish postcard photograph of the great ballerina, by the Mishkin Studio of New York, signed neatly across the photograph in black ink. An evocative character portrait of the famed Russian ballerina, shown hunched over, wearing a cloth band with flowers around her hair, an off-the-shoulder polka-dot dress, and eating grapes. In fine condition, with scattered silvering to darker areas of the image. 3.5 x 5.5 inches.

On the verso, press caption, translated from Italian, reads: "Celebration of Vittorio de Sica, noted Italian director, finding out that he has won the world's greatest cinematographic prize, the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, 'Il giardino dei Finzi Contini.' Signed portrait photograph of the beloved actor who played Lieutenant Columbo for over thirty years and won four Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe in the process.  Falk has inscribed "To Paul / My Best / Peter Falk" in black ink.  Though the outfit Falk is wearing bears a striking resemblance to Columbo's sartorial habits, right down to holding a cigar in his hand, we were unable to definitively confirm whether or not this photograph is directly related to the series.  Two small marks to center of image, faint diagonal surface crease, overall in fine condition.  7 x 9 inches (17.8 x 22.9 cm.). Pair of Lighters and a Signed Card from the FCC

Small collection of items related to the American actress best known for her femme fatale roles in film noirs with Alan Ladd during the 1940s, including a pair of stylish lighters, a signed card from the Federal Communications Commission, and a paper tag reading "Veronica Lake's discarded effects / 16-18 / found in Charles St. Cellar / Winter 1970 by C. M. (Celeste Martin)."  The lighters, a pair of naphtha models, include a leather-wrapped lift-arm style model and a striking metal-bodied lighter that lights—or would, rather, if fuel were present—when the cap is opened. The FCC card, issued the year after she earned her pilot's license in 1946, is signed by Lake to recto and authorizes her to operate radiotelephone equipment on aircraft.  All in fine condition.
