Original period printed poster reproducing the cover image of a souvenir portfolio published for participants in the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, August 28, 1963. The portfolio included five collage prints created by artist Louis Lo Monaco in recognition of marchers, who turned out in Washington, DC in excess of 250,000. The poster depicts three marchers holding hands juxtaposed with the hand of God from Michelangelo's Creation of Adam fresco at Rome's Sistine Chapel. Haight-Ashbury Clean In - Original Poster

Original poster designed by Moscoso, one of the "Big Five" San Francisco psychedelic poster artists, promoting a clean-in in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood.  According to the MOMA, which has a copy of the poster in its collection, "There was growing public resistance in the late 1960s to the alternative lifestyle and values of the hippie movement, especially in San Francisco, its center.  Moscoso recalls how, in the spring of 1967, 'the SF police were cracking down in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood.  "Dirty garbage pails" was the reason they gave for their strong arm and suppressing tactics.  The neighborhood fought back with a 'Clean in' and these posters hung in just about every window... A wonderful sight for me!'  This was during the build-up to the Summer of Love, when as many as one hundred thousand people converged in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood."  Published by Neon Rose in 1967, some light edgewear, else fine. Measures 20 x 14 inches.

"The First Hand Cleanser to make Dirt Fly" - Lindy Hands Cleanser

Original vintage tin of Lindy brand hand cleanser with a vibrant red, white and blue paper label showing a hand rising up behind the Spirit of St. Louis, both above a globe showing Lindbergh's transatlantic flight path.  The slogan "The First Hand Cleanser to make Dirt Fly" appears at the bottom.  The back of the label promises, "Wherever hands need cleaning, put the job up to 'Lindy'. Results will be gratifying."  Made by Price-Rose Manufacturing Co. Inc, in East Stroudsburg, PA.  Rust to tin and light wear to label, but in remarkable condition given its age.  4 inches high (10.24 cm.). Read More...

Signed document from the third son of Dauphin Louis, King of France from 1774 to 1792, husband of Marie Antoinette, deposed in September of 1792, tried for treason December 1792, found guilty, condemned to death and guillotined. 1 page, folio, Maison de La Reine [Paris], 6 December ["derniere mois"] 1789, addressed to the Administrator of the Royal Treasury, M. Marc Antoine Francois Marie Randon de la Tour, responsible for the expenditure of the household, ordering the "Administrateur de mon Tresor Royal" to pay Monsieur Joseph Duruey 5000 livres to furnish the payment for the rental of the Maison de Fleury for the "service of the [Queen's] stables ('Ecurie')." Signed "Bon / Louis" by the King himself and additionally signed in the King's name by a secretary.  9.5 x 11.4 inches [23.9 x 29 cm], nicely matted and framed with gray velvet surrounding a hand-colored period engraved portrait (Chez Le Blond, fils Cadot, Graveur - Avignon. Trimmed to size, nicks to edges and repaired tear evident along right edge. Autograph letter from the French physician and politician whose name became synonymous with the ‘humane’ instrument of execution whose use he proposed to the government during the French Revolution. 1 page, signed "Guillotin." March 10, 1793 ["20 Ventôse, 4ieme an la Republique Française" French Revolutionary calendar]. Inscribed at the head "Liberté, Egalité - Section Fontaine de Grenelle," a letter penned in his capacity as Commissioner of the Fontaine de Grenelle section of Paris, charged with the clothing and armament of volunteers departing to join the Northern Army, a post he held from 1793. "I the undersigned, Member of the Commission...certify that the Citoyen Pierre d'Evesque [?] is part of the Requisition..."and adding further details, docketing also with his initials to the left margin. 6 x 8 inches [16 x 20.5 cm], nicely matted and framed with red velvet surrounding a hand-colored stipple engraved portrait and a hand-colored engraving of a Revolutionary guillotine scene.
