"Bonds Away" - Original Program and Ticket from 1944 Air Force Show

Original program and ticket from a January 17, 1944 Air Force War Bond Show, titled "Bonds Away!" The show took place at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House and featured an Air Force band and songs, dances, and skits by members of the Air Force. The broadside/program opens to a listing of the show's acts, and then opens out further to a map of the American west coast, with a diagram of the route of the first Air Force War Bond road show. Light overall toning, with the date added to the cover page in ink; overall fine. 7 x 11 inches (18 x 28 cm) folded; 14 x 22 inches (36 x 56 cm) opened. Ticket 4.5 x 2.5 inches (11.8 x 6.4 cm).

Dansville, NY: F.A. Owen Publishing Company. 1945. Collection of ten educational posters in a printed folder prominently displaying the title The Instructor: Community Helper Posters and an American flag.  From the back of the folder: "Only after a child understands his own personal background in home and community can his mind stretch from the 'here and now' to the 'long ago and far away.'  An excellent way to introduce children to a study of their community environment is through 'community helpers.'  The pictures and accompanying text in this folder supply material for such an approach."  Published 1945 by the F. A. Owen Publishing Company, Dansville, N.Y.  Posters included depict The Teacher, The Fireman, The Librarian, The Policeman, The Bus Driver, The Postman, The Engineer, The Nurse, The Farmer, and The Grocer.  Posters printed in black and white with text to back, laminated as issued, small marks under laminate from mounting pins to corners, mounting remnants outside laminate to outer corners, else very fine.  Folder split at seam, worn along edges, some internal creases and toning, else fine.  10.25 x 13.25 inches (26 x 33.6 cm.).

This strange little volume contains six songs, five by Lane - "Our Old Gloy," "Send A Wireless Message," "The Old Home," "The Titanic," "The White Slave," and "The Baggage Care Ahead."

Bold drawing in black marker from the American cartoonist, depicting the word "BANG!" surrounded by explosive scribbles. Numbered 9 at the lower right. Unsigned, but obtained from a collection of Steig work and guaranteed to be in the hand of the artist. Upper edge rough; overall fine. 10.75 x 8.25 inches (27.5 x 21.3 cm).

The American cartoonist William Steig later became the author of beloved children's books such as Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, the Doctor De Soto series, and Shrek.
