Early signed photograph of the legendary Japanese conductor, inscribed "To George Gabor [sic]/ with fond remembrances of the NBC Orchestra and your C-Boom-Boom/ Seiji Ozawa/ 1974 May 29," together with a photocopy of a letter of recommendation written by Ozawa to the Distinguished Ranks Committee of the Indiana University School of Music on behalf of Mr. Gaber, a member of faculty: "Gentlemen:/ When the NBC orchestra came to Japan some twenty years ago, it certainly had a major impact on me./ Hearing them play Brahms Symphony #1 which highlighted George Gaber's timpany [sic.] solo presented my ears with a new sound and gave me the strength to study music outside of Japan./ In hope that this recollection will be of interest to you, I am,/ sincerely yours,/ Seiji Ozawa." Three really marvelous signed photographs of opera legends, all of which were tragically split in half on their way to us due to poor packaging. Each is mounted on brittle old backing, each approx. 6 x 8.5 inches, each with further nicks and chips around the edges. The signatures are bold and clear, the images really marvelous. If they were in better shape, we'd be looking at a regular total price in the ballpark of $1500; the Caruso can still be matted as a square SP without faults due to the break well under the inscribed area and upper half of the photograph.
